Our team have been working on a project in Croydon over the past few months in a setting-out and movement monitoring capacity. One of our site engineers has been busy setting out on this site 2-3 times per week and the movement monitoring of that particular has been ongoing since May 2022. The main aim of movement monitoring is to make sure all buildings and surrounding structures remain stable during the construction phase. Our daily monitoring for this Bromley base client is essential to detect early signs of movement so the we provide precise measurement data which aids in the detection and analysis of structural movement. This is particularly important for our aforementioned client who has a large site in Croydon where they are building a set of 4 blocks of flats concurrently.
How is Movement Monitoring conducted?
Our highly experienced surveyors use state of the art Leica Total Stations to provide high precision analysis and the method we use to monitor for movement is usually as follows.
Firstly, we establish the position via resection from site control and then take initial readings. Our fee proposals always consist of Installation, base readings & report set up costs. For most small residential projects this usually takes no more than a few hours.
Having established accurate control stations away from the area of the site our team is monitoring, the surveyors can accurately monitor the identified structure for any movement by repeatedly surveying targets they have installed on the structure.
The frequency of survey readings will be agreed with the Structural Engineers and is usually different for every project. As previously mentioned, our current project in Croydon requires the surveyors to survey readings every day to check for movement. This is not uncommon, however, most of Scope Survey projects are on a weekly or monthly basis. Using our high precision Leica Total Stations we can detect millimetres movements. Our fees based on daily site visits and can be as frequent as required and a bespoke quotation can be prepared accordingly.
Once the data has been received by our team, it is then uploaded to Leica GeoMos Monitoring Solution software. This provides reports and graphs for the client. Clients can login themselves with a secure login and then they can view and analyse the trends in data. It is a simple and user friendly method of getting the results to our clients.
